Today I met with a client, let’s call her Sally*.
I was so amazed and inspired by her change, that I felt compelled to share the details of our session with you.
Just to put things in context, Sally, like most of my clients, came to see me because she was feeling overwhelmed, resentful and alone.
Sound familiar?
Sally was just going through the motions, trying to get through each day.
Her marriage was sufferring and she was plagued with feelings of guilt and thoughts of failure as a mother.
Man, do I know what THAT is like.
Sometimes, from that angle, it’s hard to see that there’s even a different way of being.
You know what I mean?
So it never ceases to amaze and inspire me to sit across from a mama and hear her reflect on how she is experiencing her transformation.
So what’s different?
Sally said that she feels so much less anxious and controlling. She’s feeling calmer and more present. And she’s even noticed that since we started working together her husband has been stepping up and doing more to support her, practically and emotionally. Or, in her words, “I’m calmer, he’s calmer”.
Bulls eye!
So to encourage her reflection, I asked Sally how she thinks she’s come to this point.
Her answer?
“Making time for my therapy”.
Yes!
“What was keeping you from making time for your therapy?”, I asked.
“I didn’t want to talk about it. I didn’t want to deal with it.”
“What were you scared would happen if you did?”, I was curios to know.
“I was scared that it would make things worse”.
“Did it?”, I wondered out loud.
“No. I see that I can handle it now. And now I see that if I’m freaking out all the time, I can’t have calm kids. I can’t be the mom that I want to be. I can have the relationships that I want”.
“I realize,” Sally added, “the things I want, I can only have when I deal with myself”.
Spoken like a true Mother in the Making.
When I own my struggle, ask for help, and face it head on, amazing change can happen.
Now, if you’re thinking, “Great story Liba, but I’m totally stuck and no one can possibly help me out”, or if your wondering if maybe I might he able to help you, then let’s talk.
